The School

  Fürstenberg Gymnasium is a state grammar school in Donaueschingen, encompassing years 5 - 13 (ages 11-19). The fifth and sixth classes are used to orientate the pupils in their further studies. 

With the introduction of a class, which learns Latin from the first year and the possibility to continue these studies learning Greek, the school is making an active effort to hold on to its traditions, developing the teaching of ancient languages alongside the many modern languages on offer.
 
Pupils complete their time at the Gymnasium after 9 years, by taking the Abitur (school leaving qualifications, equivalent to A'Levels) exams. 

The school currently has 1095 pupils, 75 teachers and 11 student teachers (in the school year 1999/2000). The school's catchment area covers the smaller towns of Hüfingen, Bräunlingen, Blumberg, Geisingen and Bad-Dürrheim as well as Donaueschingen itself and the surrounding countryside. Our current pupils come from 60 different municipalities, from the districts of Schwarzwald-Baar, Tuttlingen, Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald and Waldshut. More than two thirds of the pupils live outside Donaueschingen itself.
